Initially released in the summer of 2003, "Aspect : Redundant" was the 1st Balbulus CD, and also the first time I had released music that was 100% mine. The music is a collection of demos recorded on my old tape 4-track between 1998-1999. My old band Elemental had split by then, and I had plans to put together a new outfit with a more focused and technical edge than before.

The tapes were then put aside as my life took a disillusioned and unproductive diversion, until someone at work expressed interest in hearing some of my music. I dug the tapes out of a box and cleaned and edited the tracks into something presentable. The album was intended to mark an ending, to draw a line under an aspect of my life that was effectively redundant (hence the title). As it turned out, the exercise had the opposite effect on me, and instead rekindled my desire to make this music.

The album is certainly not perfect, but it was definitely the best I could do at the time with the tools available to me, and so is something I remain proud of to this day. Tracks like “No Time To Turn”, “S.B.E.” and “artnamesion” are still among my favourite pieces I have written. Other tracks like “Tragic Millennium” and “Hi-on-Life” would later be reworked and restructured, but the initial spark of inspiration is still evident in these early versions.
