about

4 songs that date from the “band” version of Balbulus that later evolved into the Tragic Millennium duo. The instrumental recordings have been lurking on my hard-drive from an abortive attempt to record a Tragic Millennium album in 2011, but we never got round to recording Andy H.’s vocals. However, I managed to salvage the vocal track for “Would For The Trees” from another earlier unfinished Balbulus recording session. The other 3 songs sadly had no vocal tracks recorded, and therefore remain here as instrumental versions.

On this recording:
John W. - guitar, bass and programming
Andy H. - vocals on “Would For The Trees”

Some bass parts were originally written by Dan Johnson.

Would For The Trees - probably the most popular song in the Balbulus and Tragic Millennium live set, this 10-minute folk-metal epic was the closest we ever got to an “anthem”. The music was very much inspired by bands like Drudkh, Skyforger and early Opeth.

Saints All Hope (instrumental) - an industrial dirge in the vein of Godflesh, written with a deliberate aim to keep the drums as simple as possible. The title comes from the ruins of Hope All Saints church on Romney Marsh.

Majestic II (instrumental) - a pounding slab of tribal doom, inspired by Godflesh, Neurosis, Swans and High on Fire. A sort of sequel to an earlier Balbulus tune called “Majestic”.

Love Of Life (Swans cover - instrumental) - our rendering of the classic Swans track; in particular the version from the “Omniscience” album which has the immense extended ending.
